Each item listed in the Smith and Wilde sale receives a detailed and accurate description from one of our specialists and a full colour photograph featured in the sale catalogue. Receipt of Sale items

Smith and Wilde have made this process simple and easy. Items can be sent or brought by appointment to our offices at Pocklington, York. Once received your items are covered by a specialist insurance policy and held in our secure strong rooms. As soon as your items have been examined suitable estimates will be placed on them, customers' reserves will be respected and fully taken into consideration.

Cataloguing of items for sale

On receipt of your items Smith and Wilde will discuss with you which sale you wish your items to be placed in. Smith and Wilde will then research the items using one of our specialists and our extensive Militaria historic library. All items are given an accurate and reliable description and unlike other auction houses all the items placed into our sales are given a full colour and high quality photograph.

All clients will receive a full colour printed catalogue complimentary.

Sale Day

The full colour printed Smith and Wilde catalogues are despatched to international destinations up to three weeks prior to a sale, giving ample time for clients to read, digest and review the items for sale. The Smith and Wilde sales are held in the contemporary Royal Armouries, Leeds and the auction itself is in the prestigious Wellington Suite. The Royal Armouries offers an excellent location for buyers to view the items for sale in the Smith and Wilde sales at their leisure. The Royal Armouries are near to Leeds City Centre and can be reached easily by road, rail or air. Viewing of the items for sale takes place on the Thursday before the sale and on the Friday morning of the sale. All items are handled with professionalism, security, care and integrity and are displayed in our viewing room in the Wellington Suite see Previous Auction. Headdress is displayed on stands, uniforms on mannequins, medals, badges and smaller items are displayed in secure cases; security and care of items is always of paramount importance. Costing

Smith and Wilde treat every enquiry individually, contact the Smith and Wilde offices by telephone, fax or e-mail to organise the terms and conditions of your items for sale in the forthcoming sales. If you wish to arrange a private and confidential personal consultation please do not hesitate to book an appointment by contacting our registered office. Smith and Wilde's selling commission is 15% (plus VAT) on the hammer price and unlike other auction companies Smith and Wilde will not charge the seller for insurance costs, as your items are fully insured complimentary by our insurance from the moment they arrive to the fall of the hammer. In addition to this, Smith and Wilde do not charge a photography fee, a research fee, or an unsold fee, and there is no minimum value required for lots to be placed into our sales. Accounts are settled promptly and with 21 working days after a sale assuming the purchaser's accounts are cleared.
